What do The Great Santini, The Big Chill, G.I. Jane, Forrest Gump, Prince of Tides and Something to Talk About have in common?
They were all filmed in and around Beaufort, South Carolina!
Our air-conditioned Beaufort Movie Tour van takes you to sites and homes where the stars stayed in downtown Beaufort. Locations surrounding Beaufort such as The Gump Medical Center (funded by Forrest’s “gazillions” he earned running the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company), The National Cemetery where The Great Santini was buried and the bridge from Forrest Gump that he crossed on the way back east from his cross-country run – yes, the “Mississippi River” bridge in actually here in Beaufort.
The Beaufort Movie Tour Story
“My fascination with movie filming and locations began in 1993 when I was visiting a family member who was the Production Coordinator for Pulp Fiction. After picking her up from her studio in Hollywood late one night, they just so happened to be filming the scene where John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson were “visiting” some college boys who owed them some money for drugs. The boys had neither the money nor the drugs by then. After Samuel L. Jackson quoted a favorite verse from the scripture, he and Travolta proceeded to blow the boys away, which sounded more like cap guns. Bullet sound effects were added in post production.
In between scenes, Travolta, who had long, greasy hair extensions for his role as Vincent Vega, would sit on one of those tall director’s chairs and slurp Chinese noodles with his chopsticks. Although they were filming the scene at night, in the film (released in 1994) you would swear the scene was shot in daylight. This movie magic amazed me!
We toured other sets for the filming of Pulp Fiction, such as the night club where Travolta goes with Uma Thurman where she does the famous two-fingers-in-front-of-her-eyes go-go dance. It’s amazing to have been on set of a blockbuster film!
Had I known that at the same time (1993) they were producing great films, such as Forrest Gump, The Jungle Book and The War, right here in my own city-Beaufort, South Carolina, I would have been a regular spectator!
There have been so many classic films produced here. We are excited to share all these wonderful locations and stories with you!”
